The Muslim faith is centered on being a good person. It’s not just about praying and fasting once a year, but about living an ethical life. In Islam, manners are called “adab” — a word that means much more than just etiquette. It encompasses how we think and behaves in our everyday lives.
ALWAYS BE KIND TO OTHERS.
Islam teaches that we should treat others as we want them to treat us. A hadith in the Prophet’s sayings says, “All of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards, and a man is a guardian in his family and responsible for his charges. A woman is a guardian in her husband’s house and responsible for her charges; a servant is a guardian on his master’s property and responsible for his charges.
ALWAYS BE GRATEFUL
The Prophet Muhammad said, “The grateful person will be rewarded for what he has, and the ungrateful person will be punished for what he has not.” This hadith shows us that gratitude is crucial to being an Islamic person. It is not simply a matter of expressing thanks but a way of being where we live, bringing appreciation to our hearts in all aspects of daily living. The Prophet Muhammad was the epitome of gratitude in his everyday life, often expressing thanks and praise to Allah for all things, big and small.
ALWAYS BE HUMBLE
Humility is essential in the Muslim way of life. It protects one from being arrogant and prideful, which is one of the worst sins in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad said, “Arrogance disdains advice.” Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. It is being unpretentious and not seeking praise or attention. Being humble is being aware of your faults and flaws, your weaknesses and limitations, and not making a show of your accomplishments.
ALWAYS HAVE HUMILITY AND GRATITUDE WHEN YOU PRAY.
Prayer is the central pillar of Islam. It is a direct connection between you and God. Before you start your prayer, you must put yourself in a state of humility and gratitude. When you begin your prayer, you should feel like standing in front of the King of Kings, the Most Powerful and Majestic Being in the entire universe. When you stand in front of such a Being, you need to feel humbled, you need to feel gratitude in your heart, and you need to think that you are nothing compared to Him.
CONCLUSION
Manners in Islam are not just about table manners or how to greet people. They are about every aspect of daily life. They are about how you think and behave in your everyday life. They are about how you treat yourself and how you treat others. They are about how you treat your family and friends, how you treat your neighbors, and how you treat those around you.
